100 design students in art exhibition in Bukit Bintang ala ‘flash mob freeze’

Bukit Bintang, 3 March 2011 – Over 100 students from Saito College made a statement in the busy streets of downtown Kuala Lumpur today at the media launch of “Saito Proud!” – a mobile art exhibition of students’ creative artworks.

Proudly posing in a choreographed routine, the group attracted public curiosity from passers-by as they ‘froze’ in unison outside the main entrance of shopping malls Fahrenheit88, Pavilion KL, Sungei Wang and Dataran Maybank. T-shirts as canvasses; Saito’s students decided to do away with a static exhibition and injected their own dynamic energy for a fluid display of their own creative artworks printed on t-shirts.

Named Saito Proud!, Saito School of Design decided to support the student-led initiative to showcase their artwork on the streets. Participating students came from the three main design disciplines of the school; Graphic Design, Multimedia Design and Interior Design. In the press conference, Saito College Principal, Mr. Ooi Chee Kok said, “At Saito, we aim to create learning that is current, relevant and authentic so that our students will discover their hidden talents and realise their full potential in their journey with us”.

“I don’t think any college has done anything like this before. It is a very unique way of exhibiting students’ artwork,” said Tan Teng Teng, 19 year-old Diploma in Interior Design (Year 1 Semester 1) student. 20 year-old Ravivarma Vikraman (Year 2 Semester 2) Diploma in Multimedia Design student added, “It is a new way of approaching the crowd through this Design Students Walking Exhibition instead of Booth Exhibitions like we see in the Education Fairs. It’s amazing to see how the members of the public react to what they see”.

Saito Proud! was intended by students to stop traffic with their art, to intrigue the public even for just one minute! Mustafa Shah Nawaz Khodabaksh, Certificate in Creative Design (Year 1 Semester 2) student said, “It’s a very interesting thing to see that you don’t see it everyday. It’s a very innovative idea. It’s new! It’s original!”

Over 105 designs were selected, showcasing a wide range from Digital Paintings, 3D Animations, Typography, 3D Interior Design Renderings and Photography.

Additionally, Saito College being an active socially responsible organisation, is pleased to announce that its students have donated digital copies of their artworks as royalty-free images for non-commercial use. The CDs will be distributed to organizations such as schools and NGOs.

Press Release

The ultimate secret to younger hair, skin and nails with evelle®

Three essential active ingredients for skin nutrition

Kuala Lumpur, 21 January 2011 – Science based skin nutrition supplement from Denmark, evelle® introduces its new packaging for distribution in Malaysia by Sun Pharmaceutical Sdn Bhd.

Micronutrients and plant extracts isoflavanoids in evelle® supplement stimulate the skin from within and is based on scientific research in nutrition. evelle® has made an impact even from a scientific aspect as it is currently the only beauty pill that has documentation published in a scientific dermatological journal. Inside, the secret is in the relevant active ingredients with complementary anti-oxidant, auto-immune, microcirculation and hydration needed by the skin to function physiologically.

evelle® comes in tablet form, and offers good nutritional supplement for the largest organ in the body – skin. The three essential active ingredients help complement today’s busy lifestyles, which often result in unbalanced diets lacking in important vitamins and minerals:

Bio-Marine Complex ® has a natural content of chondroitin sulphate (an important glycosaminoglycan), proteins and polysaccharides. They are important for water binding in tissues, viscosicity of the tissues and their mechanical qualities, including the elasticity of the cartilage5. Glycosaminoglycans represent modified carbohydrates such as hyaluronic acid which play an important role in skin hydration. Bio-Marine Complex ® had been tested to be free of anti-biotics residue and heavy metal contents.

SelenoPrecise ® - an organic trace mineral, which is essential for immune system development and function. The trace mineral can inhibit oxidative stress more effective compared to Ginkgo biloba, beta-carotene, and vitamin E 6, 7. Selenium was effective in protecting against UV damage to skin in a human study8.

Pycnogenol ® - consist of several proanthocyanidins1 which is a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes various free radicals and increase the activity of endogenous antioxidant systems. It protects collagen and elastin against oxidative and enzymatic decomposition2, 3. Pycnogenol ® has a positive effect in sun protection4 and microcirculation.

According to research by dermatologists at Skin Investigation and Technology Institute in Hamburg, two tablets of evelle® a day helps slow the progression of wrinkles, keeping skin young and resilient. The trial, which lasted for 3 months, included 62 women aged 45-73 years. Half got two evelle® tablets a day, and the other half received placebo tablets. In the beginning of the experiment, all the women were measured and had a piece of their skin scanned. This was repeated after one and a half month, and at the end of the experiment. On the illustration you can see the skin texture at the beginning of the experiment, and again after 12 weeks. The skin was significantly smoother in the group taking evelle® after 12 weeks, compared to the placebo group. Likewise, a change in skin elasticity could be measured.

Music video ‘Terpesona’ launches a style of its own

Kuala Lumpur, 11 January 2011 – Frank Scott Hew’s premier single and music video titled ‘Terpesona’ was launched yesterday at Celebrities Club, Soho KL in Solaris Mont’ Kiara in Kuala Lumpur.

The event was hosted by Dato’ Mahadzir Lokman and brought celebrity models Amber Chia, Nadine Ann and Stefanie Chua on stage garbed in Keith Kee’s magnificent creations. Over 150 guests and media attended, showing support to the music industry’s first – the collaboration between newcomer tenor Frank Scott Hew and lyrical soprano Syafinaz Selamat.

Frank Scott Hew & Syafinaz Selamat

“Terpesona“, which reveals Frank Scott as two personas – good and evil; both vying for a maiden’s affection, was conceived by the newcomer himself. Frank Scott, also a lifestyle architect who has already strewn performing arts into his life since he was young added that, “venturing into the music industry is something that I never expected and I am really excited about it as music has always been my biggest passion.”

Frank Scott, who has been playing the piano and organ since he was 5 years old, is a Singer as well as a trained Dancer and Choreographer. He has also always been interested in fashion since young and with a distinct style of his own, has successfully merged this sense with his first singing debut in this music release. According to Frank Scott, “I see fashion as an essential expression of one’s personality. In the video, the costumes were important to bring out the fantasy aspect of the song. I hope people will enjoy the music video as much as we enjoyed creating it ”. This is the reason that attracted the myriad of local fashion designers to collaborate with him for the music video.

The four local fashion designers – Key Ng, Keith Kee, Melinda Looi and Michael Ong, collaborated with Frank Scott for “Terpesona”. All were impressed with Frank Scott’s vision for the music video and his artistic direction. Key Ng was so taken that he invited Frank Scott to be his muse for the Stylo Fashion week. Keith Kee met Frank Scott at the same event and was blown away by his opening performance with Syafinaz Selamat. Melinda Looi found out they have one thing in common – most of their designs are conceived from their dreams. Meanwhile, Michael Ong was taken aback when he first heard Frank Scott and Syafinaz sang; “Two big beautiful voices come together… powerful and romantic. [Frank Scott’s] voice is very unique and fits perfectly well with Syafinaz’s. I noticed that Syafinaz is very particular with her work and I believe that Frank Scott is special enough to have gained her trust.”

Nadine Ann, Stefanie Chua & Amber Chia dressed in Keith Kee designs

Frank Scott would readily admit that his musical journey would not have happened in the first place without Syafinaz Selamat, whom he was introduced to by mutual friend Rosnan Abdul Rahman from Istana Budaya. It was through her that he met Hafiz Askiak who composed the fantastical duet for Frank and Syafinaz called ‘Terpesona’ in which he managed to merge Frank’s pop and Syafinaz’s operatic style.

The Terpesona project took more than eight months to come to fruition – from composer search to recording, video planning to costume design, finding the right production crew and CGI Animation team – Blaque Media and more. “It was truly a hard and long but fulfilling journey for me,” said Frank Scott. “If I didn’t have the great passion for this, I would have easily given up half way. It was really physically and emotionally exhausting but my heart tells me that this is something that I should do,” he added. As the Producer and Artistic Director of the project, Frank Scott Hew did not only invest his heart, soul and time but also most of his savings as well. “I feel very blessed and thankful as a lot of people came forward to help put the pieces together. I now have a piece of music that I hope brighten up the Malaysian music industry.”

The success of the project was also a result of invaluable support provided by Winnie Loo from A Cut Above; Fabien Wong – Chief Make Up Artist from A Cut Above Academy; Image Stylists Wee Chee and Allien Gan; Abigail Wong and Melissa Chai from Maxis and Sammi from Golden Dynamic who created an amazing digital platform for ‘Terpesona’ and many more.

Since Frank Scott is also a trained dancer and choreographer, and an ardent fashionista, it was only natural that his passon for music, art, dance and fashion collided when he caught up with old friends who paved the way and encouraged him towards the realisation of ‘Terpesona’.
Pop fashionista, Frank Scott Hew wows with uniquely different energy

Music single ‘Terpesona’ dares to be different

Kuala Lumpur, 21 December 2010 – In an unprecedented move, independent newcomer and pop fashionista Frank Scott Hew has released his first single, ‘Terpesona’ – available only via mobile download with a computer-animated music video soon to be released. You can say this is a gutsy move for a new singer, but Frank has been performing for quite some time, mainly for private functions and is now ready to wow with ‘Terpesona’.

Encouraged by Syafinaz Selamat, the lyrical soprano who has also been a judge for Akademi Fantasia seasons 3 and 4, as well as on Who Will Win, One in a Million and Mentor, he set upon finding the perfect song. The chanteuse sings with Frank in this single.

‘Terpesona’ is unique in its own manner that it is pop fused with opera, thanks to Syafinaz Selamat’s presence on the song. The upbeat song becomes an emotionally evoking tune reminiscent of Sting’s ‘Desert Rose’, especially during the bridge when Frank’s strong baritone voice is accompanied by Syafinaz in the background.

‘Terpesona’ may well become a hit for Frank Scott Hew. Composed by Hafiz Askiak, the single is available for mobile download via Maxis, DiGi and Celcom. The visually attractive music video to the song, features computer graphics animation with both singers dressed by some of the country’s top fashion designers to heighten the audience total experience. Watch out for Frank Scott Hew’s new air of music and fashion infusion.

LIGHTS OUT WITH FEYST10

After a youthful week of non-stop games and music, FEYST10 prepare for 2011

Kuala Lumpur, 21 October 2010 – The three-year old Indie Youth Fest (FEYST10) returned this
year with the intention to tickle adrenaline rushes and send youthful energy plummeting through
Klang Valley. Over 250 video gamers, 400 musicians and 30 beatboxers took part in the fest
whilst 5,000 youth attended the ten-day fete, which overflowed with activities from video gaming
to music – the in betweens and overlays.

One Buck Short's Rahul Kukreja - FEYST10 Concert

FEYST10 organisers Go International Group Sdn Bhd exerted a vibrant and inspiring festival
for youth and emerging talents, hand in hand with sponsors Tourism Malaysia, Play Interactive,
Niro Granite and partner MOL.

FEYST10 kept to its promise of having a content-rich appeal from the Game BoyTM 8-bit chip
tune clad opening party at Palate Palette Café to the last strum of guitars at the Doppelganger
World Open Mic Open Stage at the entrance of Berjaya Times Square. Guitar Hero sets, drum
sets, Game BoyTM DJs, bands, artistes, multi-player online gamers and beatboxers were thrown
into the huge FEYST10 melting pot, emerging out as young, innovative talents and opening
Kuala Lumpur’s eyes from 1 to 10 October 2010.

The activities were abuzz on social networking sites Facebook, Twitter and Friendster.
Alongside the broad spectrum of music and digitalism, some of the best names in the indie film
scene also contributed to the week-long festival. The influential Amir Muhammad, Ho Yuhang
and Lorna Tee worked together at the FEYST Film Workshop and picked at the curious minds
of youths who were looking to achieve the knowledge of the film industry and life behind the
scenes.

2nd Malaysia Beatbox Challenge - DJ Co-ex, Shazet (Champion), Megat the Beatboxer & Koji

The success of FEYST10 does not solely lie within the ten-day festival, but the ability and strive
to bring young talents of Malaysia to the world beyond. E-sports cyber athletes challenged each
other during the Go International E-sports Cup (GO.esc) with the latest massive multiplayer
online role-playing game, Heroes of Newerth (HoN), and Left 4 Dead. The final round of HoN
held at Friendster i-Café at Berjaya Times Square determined the winners, ‘xTu’, who embraced
the opportunity of heading to the Swedish Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai China from 14 – 18
October. xTu will also ready themselves for the upcoming Digital Youth Awards at Singapore
this November.

Flourishing with nightly music affairs at various spots around Klang Valley, the FEYST10 music
series opened up their platform for artistes ranging from funk to acoustic to world pop; what
the two-day finale concert at Berjaya Times Square on the 9 and 10 October swiftly echoed.
The eve of the Indie Youth Fest concert was celebrated at One Café; RockFeyst grazing the
scopes of metalcore, post-rock, experimental and punk rock with newly rising bands such as
Kyoto Protocol, Spritz!!! and A Ruthless Cleansing and more. The pure magic of the festival was
the ability to reach out to not only a certain age; FEYST10 opened its doors to a large array of
people from all appreciative ages, though the majority was without doubt a bold shade of youth.

FEYST10 was a way to challenge youths from all angles and during the mass of events a
Beatbox Competition drew in the talented voiceboxes around Malaysia to compete for the first
prize – a Play Interactive Hercules DJ Console. Shazet, an inventive beatboxer who has also
won the Melbourne Beatbox Championship, walked away with the console in hand and pride as
he held his winning medal close to his chest. Throughout the two final days at Berjaya Times
Square, ground-breaking acts such as An Honest Mistake, One Buck Short, Beatburns and
Free Deserters shared the main stage with a string of other inspiring talents such as Amirah Ali,
2StoreyHeart, Markiza & Peter Hassan Brown and poetry slammer, George Wielgus.

Shanghai, Sydney, France, Singapore, Sweden… What else does Go International Group have
in store for the eager youths trying to find a space to break their ground? If you didn’t grab a
chance to witness FEYST10 – you’ve missed out big time, but brace yourselves for more and
look forward to another Indie Youth Fest in 2011. For updates, visit the festival’s website at
